Hall High has a long list of pros and cons. From a later  start time, to overcrowded stairways, to groups standing in the middle of the damn hallway, there are many things we would all change about this school. Teachers to students might have different roles in Hall High School but they agree on some topics.

Many people think the time we start school is too early and yet people didn’t know that a student at Hall named Emma Waddell tried to push back school times so students could get enough sleep. Throughout Hall High School, there are lots of pros including faculty, student, clubs, sports, and school spirit. They are lots of positives that make Hall High School a great school.

Another negative brought up by senior Ethan Wilkins is, “Students do not have a lot of freedom.” Another student juwan said; “A con about Hall High school is disturbances in the bathrooms, regarding the vaping and vandalism on the walls’. Following up on negativity about Hall, Jhanea Bellamy said; “there isn’t anything exciting about it.” Thomas Carey said; “People are pushy and rude… no matter the class. Despite the teacher’s, help given, or advice.” Tom Evelien  agrees with this, saying; “One con about Hall is that teachers all always nosy when you’re trying to get work done.” Speaking of staff at Hall, When asked about a con, Cheryl Livsey  said; “[Students and teachers] send so many emails.

There are plenty pros about Hall High School that affect us in a positive way and shows students how they have it good here instead of other high schools. Principal  of Hall High School Dan Zittoun said, “ The outstanding faculty and great school spirit the school has that makes it such a great school.” I agree on this point because the faculty is great here you get lots of extra support when needed and you are provided with great teachers who teach very good. Also I agree that Hall High School has great school spirit we won a contest to bring in a pop singer named Daya. The whole school presented great spirit to win and get her to come.” Another staff member at Hall, Mrs. Livsey says; “A pro is that [Hall] is a diverse school.” Teacher’s seem to have a handle on the positive vibes hall brings to them. Let’s see what a few class of 2017 students have to say.

From a student’s perspective, Thomas Carey, A senior of Hall High School said, “ That I was able to be with my friends and learn ASL. I am happy that I finally got American Sign Language as a language at Hall.” Juwan Givens talks positively about the teachers, saying: the teachers. are friendly and give you  a lot of freedom.” Matt Dillon, a well known senior goes to say; “Hall has made some pretty good changes,” Matt continues with “The bathrooms downstairs and the new main office came out great.” Ethan Wilkins, the Hall tennis captain, said; “the staff is very nice.” Jhanea Bellamy, saids; “One pro about Hall is  that we all can get along with other students.” All these quotes, from both the class of 2017 and staff here at Hall, are reflecting positive light upon Hall but did you ever think about what the negative views are?

Even though there are plenty positives and negatives about Hall High School there’re is also some changes students and teachers want. Senior Matt Dillon said, “ one thing I would change about Hall High School is the school lunch”. Students want good food a couple times a month not the same boring food every week. Ethan Wilkins said, “Hall and many other school in West Hartford should change the time they/we start school”. It is hard for many students and teachers to wake up in the morning for school. There was a Student named Emma Waddell from Hall High School that wanted change the time that students in high school got up for school in the morning from 7:30- 8:30 and went up to the Board of education and said “It’s hard to get up in the morning, especially it’s hard to pay attention first period when you’re up that early,” Waddell said. It is hard for many people who have sports and work to go to bed early because when you get home from a sport game or work you have to do homework until like eleven or twelve o’clock at night. Bellamy said “ Two things Hall High School could change is the price of trips and school store clothing. Even the price of yearbooks has to go down”. Things at Hall are not cheap they do get a little Pricey. They should lower the cost and can’t afford these because  of low income families to have students that come to hall also get free reduced lunch.

Principal of Hall High School Dan Zittoun said, “ Change the master schedule (to maybe have a modified block) so that students would not have to go through all their classes every day and would hopefully take some off the pressure they feel on a regular basis”. Students have lots of pressure going through at least seven to eight classes everyday. Students wish they can have half a day so they can catch up on work they missed and have less stress about having the hardest classes back to to back.

There will always be some positives, negatives, and things teachers and students would like to change about Hall High School. Hall is a nice school with lots of very helpful teachers and staff. But Hall High School will change overtime and some rules will also change over time maybe the High Schools in West Hartford later, maybe we will get better lunches. Even Though there are some problems in West Hartford and we have a great school system we’re lucky to have such a nice school that have teachers and staff that give us extra support.
