Reality of the Tech-Gen

I personally see our generation as “Tech-Gen.” Everyday you’ll see multiple people with their eyes glued to their phones or their laptops, paying no attention to what other possible things could be out there to enjoy. On social media, we put ourselves out there as someone who has a perfect life with no worries in life. For my photos, I decided to depict my generation expectation vs. reality.

In my first photo, I have my sister posing at the beach. This is the kind of photo you would see on a platform like Instagram. She’s looking out to the water (not pictured) with her hair blowing in the wind. The photo screams perfect. Though, off of social media, is that what she really would have been doing? My next photo is of students in a classroom full of computers. On a daily basis, we’re all so concentrated on our work which, typically is always online. We barely ever have time for time for ourselves, but when we do, we’re back on technology. So, when do we have time to enjoy ourselves outside? The answer is, we don’t. Our generation literally lives off of technology. In my third photo, I have two girls pictured, sitting down with homework in front of them yet being distracted by their phones instead. We sit in school for 8 hours a day with only 4 minutes between classes. For most students, he urge to get on your phone is too strong. We’re so focused on what might be going on in others “perfect” lives and what others might have to say about what’s going on in your own lives.

My point in this My Generation photo contest was to show how we frame our lives on social media to make it seem as if it’s perfect when it’s nothing like that in reality. Technology is taking over our generation.
