A.I mages have been a controversial topic since its beginning and a recent alarming instance of the danger of A.I images aroused this discussion once again. Taylor Swift, a famous singer, had fake intimate photos leaked to the public which caused damage to her public image. This instance made its way to the white house where Karine Jean Pierre, the White House press secretary, talked about it as being “very alarming”, and also stated that “while social-media companies make their own independent decisions about content management, we believe they(social-media owners) have an important role to play in enforcing their own rules to prevent the spread of misinformation”. Another recent debate about AI-generated images is if these images can be considered a form of art expression. “Some say anything can be considered art “People say “‘Anything can be art.’” But we each get to decide our own values about art”, says Miss Rachel Clark one of the art teachers at William H. Hall High School “There should be some emotion that motivates the work. I do not see these things occurring in images made by A.I.” she adds. Another agreeing artist said that “an art project needs to have a soul of its own and if it does not have it then it is not art”. Furthermore, the discussion extended to whether A.I could be used as a source of inspiration for artists “I suppose A.I. images could be used as inspiration or reference but in my experience, better work comes from people who take the time to develop their own ideas and photograph reference images” said Miss Rachel Clark.
Ethical concerns have also surfaced due to the considerable power of A.I generated images. The potential for the misuse of this new technology.
