Through the Lens of Gen X
This generation is looked at as self-obsessed, using technology to advance their popularity and fill their self confidence with “likes” and “comments”. The goal of these photos was to show how versatile we are, using technology as a gateway to advance ourselves. The first photo, at a glance, is a boy using his phone, wasting time in the hall when he should be in class. If you were to look at what is actually happening, he is working on his business. Michael has a landscaping business, between classes he works on designs and money management, further growing his business and increasing his reputation. The second photo you see a girl using a laptop and headphones. Maybe she’s binge-watching Netflix. Victoria is actually watching a Bozeman Bio video, trying to get ahead for the next unit, by using her free time to be prepared for a unit in class many days ahead. The third photo shows an old-fashioned way of gathering information. Aleena has decided to ditch technology and use the Dewey Decimal System to learn more about history. The first two photos show that we don’t use technology for just social media, but to be better as people in many fields. At first glance, it might seem that we are, but sometimes people are too quick to judge, and that is something about our generation that we don’t do. We see the multiple sides and perspectives and don’t make quick judgments. The third photo was to connect our generation to previous ones before, by using an older research technique. Generations use names such as Baby-boomer and Millennial to differentiate themselves from each other. However, we aren’t that different we just use the available tools of our time to achieve our goals.
