Was Gen Z Born Into Technology?
Recently, Generation Z has had the stigma: “these teens spend too much time on their phones.” Spending too much time on devices is generally seen as a bad thing, since the people making such claims are uneducated about the positive aspects of the device usage. An adult figure is pictured, engulfed in her phone while an attention deprived class is patiently awaiting her attention. This goes to show how we have been brought up as children into a world of technology, but it is not entirely our generations fault that we rely on these resources. The use of lines in the second picture creates a divide between the teens and the technology that is said to control them. In the same photo is a teen patiently waiting his turn to be called on while his teacher is caught socializing through her device, instead. As seen in the third picture, the background is avoiding busy distractions drawing more attention to Miller, the teen photographed. The relationship between Miller and the Iphone appear to have in the third picture is a busy, consumed, and distracting, but in reality this device is helping the student learn how to complete his homework, as the teacher was unavailable to help because of her device being a distraction constantly.
Although we have been dependent on our phones as teens, we have been raised under our elders to use our devices for solving problems and for school work, as well. Being born into the stereotype that our generation is the tech gen is not directly our fault. Although we will all continue to use our devices to improve our quality of life, the question being raised still, is “what generation is truly the tech generation?”
