The Most Important Article of the Year

In the middle of the year, President Trump, in a speech from the Rose Garden in Washington, announced the decision of withdrawing from the Paris Climate agreement. Withdrawing from the Paris Climate agreement, believing this might be the most meticulous action against other one hundred and ninety-five nations worldwide economically, does not sound as precise.

The purpose of the Paris Climate agreement is to be able to deal with greenhouse gases emissions and be consciously aware of its impact on climate change. Its intentions are to gather the world’s community so that we can all fight towards the one purpose of making our planet habitable for all mankind, battling against rising temperatures which is primarily affected by human activity. It’s such a shame that our own government, such as our chief strategist (Stephen K Bannon) and our Environmental Protection Agency administrator (Scott Pruitt), knowing that the U.S. is the second-largest polluter nation worldwide, have the audacity of arguing that ‘’international agreement could prevent the U.S. from conducting its own domestic affairs.’’

Very intrigued, I decided that I needed more opinions so that I could at least try to visualize other aspects of the whole situation. Went to have a small talk with two science teachers at Hall, whom I really admire, Nicola Culmo and Nora McHugh. I didn’t have to do much but ask what were their opinions about this topic and decision in specific. Both of them sounded very passionate about the topic, I could feel the sincerity from the heart of Mrs. Culmo when very passionately she said ‘’Trump’s administration is too ignorant to see that withdrawing from the agreement is only going to bring even more harsh consequences to our global climate change, making us eventually spend excessively more on fixing the damage from the upcoming catastrophic events.’’

It really concerns me how much selfishness can Trump and its administration shows us by taking this decision in specific. They argue that $3 billion in aid for poorer countries, who are in the agreement as well, is not a fair agreement. While at the same time, they believe that spending over $21 billion dollars on a wall is beneficial for the American people. Trump wants to keep up with his slogan of making America great again, except for the fact that unfortunately, his administration can’t see one simple idea. The United States of America is located on Planet Earth, and that Planet Earth is being shared with other many nations as well. We the people who live in the U.S. might not feel the harsh consequences from the withdrawal of this agreement now, but poorer countries might. It’s a matter of basic knowledge, the climate is a long-term period, the weather is short term, so don’t think that because it’s winter time and you see snow falling from the sky that global warming is not happening. A person who represents such economically powerful country, as the United States of America, needs to have eyes to analyze these present events and be able to realize that we are being impacted, we are going through consequences from the decisions we’ve been taking as a global community. Even though there is plenty of evidence, our administration blinds itself with pure ignorance. ‘’I don’t believe in climate change’’ it’s not an argument toward this fact.

The unaware ignorance, foolishness, and lack of enlightenment decisions our government have been taking in terms of taking care of our environment it’s simply intolerable. We are all in this together. No matter if you ‘’believe’’ or not in global warming, we all end up suffering the consequences from it because we all live on the same planet. We together are stronger to fight, we together can make our planet earth our best home, and take care of it as it has been sending us evidence that it needs caring.
