Annika Arias, a senior at Hall High School, enjoys spending time with her friends and working multiple jobs, not only for an income but to build a sense of responsibility. She hopes to pursue journalism in college as well.
What has been your favorite part about high school and why?
My favorite part about high school has been growing socially and making new friends. It’s helped me understand what traits I look for in a good friend and which traits will likely stay away from in my future.
What are some of your favorite things to do outside of high school?
I hang out with my friends and work 5-6 days a week at Toasted Oat Cafe in Canton and Zohara in the Center. I like to use some of the money I get from working to go shopping often.
What is one of your most cherished memories?
When my mom surprised me and my siblings with an ultrasound to show us she was pregnant with a baby sibling. I was really confused at first but it ended up being one of the best things to happen to me. I love being an older sibling and a role model for my younger sisters.
What prompted you to learn more about journalism?
My mom is a news anchor which inspired me to learn more about what she does, I also enjoy writing and am interesting in doing journalism in college.
Are you nervous about publishing your own authentic work?
No, not at all. I trust myself that whatever I post or publish it will be something I worked very hard on and am very proud of, otherwise I would not publish it.
Is there someone or something in mind that you really want to cover/interview?
I don’t have someone or something in mind specifically, but I definitely want to cover a topic that relates to our school. I think something that can actually allow me to have an effect on the community around me and impact a local topic, rather than being on the sidelines for a much larger, mainstream issue.
