Fionna Sortman, a 16-year-old senior, is excited to empower others through journalism, takes an interest in caring for younger kids, and enjoys spending time with friends.
Q: What do you like to do outside of school?
A: Outside of school I like to hang out with my friends and family, and I also work at an after school program called WHEE, where I look after younger kids at Aiken Elementary School.
Q: Why are you taking journalism?
A: I am taking journalism to learn about writing and to help give a voice to those who might not have one. I also have heard great things about this class from past students, so I know how beneficial it can be.
Q: What kind of articles are you excited to write?
A: I am excited to write about some of the current events happening around the world and about some of the things that go on inside of our school. I think it’ll be interesting to share these stories with Hall Records to shine light on the stories that might hide in the shadows.
Q: What are your plans for after High school and how will journalism help with that?
A: After high school I plan to go to college and get a job in the finance world. Journalism would help me with this because it will teach me about different people and how to communicate with them. Communication is one of the most important skills, especially going into finance, and and being a part of this class will help me progress this skill.
Q: Is there anything else Hall Records should know about you?
A: Hall Records should know that I’m excited to be a journalist and learn what goes on inside, and outside of our school community. I am ready to share the real stories with all!
