Will There Be a Red Wave in the 2024 Presidential Election?

American democrats and government officials are fearing a red wave in November 2024. According to the New York Times, the 2016 election resulted in a significant political spectrum flip throughout the Latino community. Data shows that “One in ten Latinos that voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election would vote for Donald Trump in 2024.”

After completing a mock election at Hall, including thirty-six students in all four grades, the political diversity at Hall is much broader than the general student population expected. The mock polls showed that 41.7% lean into the democrat category out of the thirty-six students surveyed, 30.6% are Republican, leaving 27.8% independent. The increase in Republican votes helps American voters see that the anticipated “red wave” has a really good chance at happening in the upcoming elections.

Currently, the top GOP candidates expressing interest in running for the 2024 presidential election are but are not limited to Donald Trump (former U.S President), Kristi Noem (South Dakota Governor), Ron Desantis (Florida Governor), Greg Abbott (Texas Governor), and Ted Cruz (Texas Senator, Republican presidential candidate in the 2016 election).

In the Mock election at Hall, 16.2% of the students asked voted for Ron Desantis, making him take the top number of votes for the Republican party. Two students at Hall expressed their liking for the Florida Governor by stating certain his morals that they agree with. One sophomore said, “I would vote for Desantis because he believes in keeping children innocent and not indoctrinating them when they don’t know any better.” While the other student (senior) stated, “I’d vote for Ron Desantis because he is anti-critical race theory and anti mask mandate.”

A freshman said that he “Has no interest in politics. Therefore, I probably wouldn’t vote even if I had the chance.” the rest of the election showed that Donald Trump and Ted Cruz both tied at 10.7%, Kristi Noem and Greg Abbott also tied with 2.7%. Leaving 56.8% unaccounted for.
