The Underrepresentation of Girls Sports at Hall High School

Across the world, women face injustice in sports, whether it is through unequal opportunity or unequal pay at the professional level.  There are many excuses as to why it does not receive the same attention as men’s sports, such as skill level and media coverage, though these are discriminatory practices that have been in play prior to the implementation of Title IX in 1972.  At Hall High School, each of the girls programs face this same reality.  No matter the performance of the athletes, the high school athletics department and students show little to no support at games, and do not recognize their performance as much as they do for the boys athletic teams.  Blue Reign, the student organization, has encouraged hundreds of students to show support for boys athletics such as football and soccer through instagram posts, though time and time again, the girls sports are neglected, earning as much as a temporary story post.
