Do you truly know the people around you? A friend, or family member, with a background so exotic it grasps at your thoughts about them? Maybe it is a teacher, your favorite teacher for example, iconic in the school, but so much more than just a teacher.  They have a historical background, historic for what they have done, not because of the legacy they have left behind in the classroom, but of the legacy outside of the classroom. That is Ms. Brand to many individuals. The EMS (Emergency Medical Services) class in the school and one of the cooking teachers is also an EMT (Emergency Medical Trainee). 

What does she do?

Ms. Brand leads a strict lifestyle. To say, it is a highly complex task is an understatement, as it can lead to late nights, up to midnight countless times. It wasn’t always like this though. A “mid-college crisis” as she put it, was when she fully realized what she wanted to do. Although high school pointed to the many different things that were in front of her, it wasn’t the final goal that she wanted to accomplish. Working in the food department in college, but right after getting her medical license to become an EMT, led her to where she is right now. 

Real-Life Experience

There is a lot that goes into what she does. She works in different areas of Connecticut, like in Bloomfield, or Farmington. Specifically in Bloomfield, her main area, both that she likes and she works best in. She has people that she always knows will be with her that volunteer and that she can TRUST. Ms. Brand talks about trust is important depending on what you have to do. You need to have a driver, and then two people in the back taking care of the person that is sick. “Having different jobs makes it harder”, Ms. Brand says.

Ms. Brand has an extraordinary background to the teacher she truly is. What is shown the teacher whom most of us love and are happy to have as a teacher, is a helpful, courageous, and selfless person that does her bit for the community to help.
