School Lunch Trash Epidemic

Lunch tray left in trash can rather than returning it to the pile of trays.
Trash left on the lunch table to be cleaned by hard working custodian.
Students sit in front of pile of trash without cleaning it up.

As students shuffle out of the cafeteria doors at Hall High School in West Hartford, CT. The remnants of their meals are left behind. Trays piled high with half-eaten food, crumpled napkins, and plastic water bottles litter the tables and floors. The careless disposal of trash creates an unsightly and unhygienic environment, something janitors at Hall High School work long and hard hours to prevent. This creates a distasteful environment for our hard working custodians and staff. It should not be our custodian’s job to pick up after us for blatant laziness. It would go a long way if everyone just simply picked up their trash.
