Let me begin this article by reminding everyone that actors and writers have been on strike in the hopes of earning pay raises, better working conditions, and protections from the future of artifical intelligence. These strikes have caused movie productions to be delayed, so consider release dates mentioned in the article more as estimates than hard facts.
Now, on to the show! First up is “Hunger Games Ballard of Songbirds and Snakes,” which is expected to premiere on November 17, 2023. This prequel to the “Hunger Games” series is already an existing book, so if you enjoyed the Hunger Games movies, or are interested in a good read, I recommend this story. For those who have seen “Hunger Games,” this prequel will feature President Snow’s childhood and his experience with the Hunger Games.
Disney’s “Wish” is supposed to be exclusively released in cinemas on November 22, 2023, just a few days after “Hunger Games Ballard of Songbirds and Snakes.” According to “People” magazine, “The story, set in the fictional kingdom Rosas, follows an optimistic young woman named Asha. When the heroine makes a wish, she’s answered by a cosmic force named Star. Together, Asha and Star work to defeat a villain that has been described as one of the most ‘formidable foes’ in Disney history.” The movie, “Wish,” will have no early release date and no streaming, so watch it once it premiers in the theaters!
I was amazed to find out that on November 17, 2023, there will be a third “Trolls” movie in the theaters! This enstallment,“Trolls Band Together,” will feature Branch’s earlier years in life.
For all of those Broadway fans, “Wicked” will be a two-part movie, airing in theaters over the next two years. Part one is scheduled for November 27, 2024, and part two is supposed to be released on November 26, 2025.
While filming began in 2022, because of the strikes, the filming process has been delayed. “Wicked,” the move, will star Ariana Grande as Glinda, and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. Indina Menzel has been advising them on how to get into their characters and play their roles as best as possible.
“The Marvels” will be released on November 10, 2023, featuring Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel. In this movie, both Marvels must work together after their powers collide.
If this interests you, I recommend watching “Captain Marvel,” and the TV series “Ms. Marvel” first. These will give background context so you do not go into the theater confused as to what is going on. “The Marvels” was initially supposed to release on July 28, 2023, but was shifted back four months.
Featuring young Willy Wonka, “Wonka” will air in theaters on December 15, 2023. This movie will depict Wonka meeting Oompa Loompas and show how his chocolate career began. This is a movie I will not want to miss!
If you are still looking for something you do not want to miss, consider these other upcoming releases: “You are so not invited to my Bat Mitzvah” (on Netflix, August 2023), “Paddington 3” (May-June 2024), “Inside Out 2” (June 14, 2024), “Captain America Brave New World” (July 26, 2024) and Spiderman Beyond the Spider Verse (March 29, 2024).
While there’s hope all these movies come out on time, most are anxious about “Beetlejuice 2.” It is scheduled to be released September 6, 2024, and, since many fans have waited over 35 years for a second movie in this franchise, there is a lot of excitement. Of course, if you’ve already waited 35 years – being patient for a few more months on this or any other movie is worth it!
