As the automotive industry speeds towards a future of radical change and innovation we gain immensely in comfort, efficiency, and environmental friendliness, but we also lose something else. As electric motors eliminate the need for transmissions and people become more and more lazy, the market for manual transmission cars is disappearing more quickly than ever. But why should people care? Manual cars offer several advantages over their automatic counterparts. Manual cars give their drivers more control over the vehicle through the ability to put the car into whichever gear they choose. Manual cars also heighten the driver’s awareness of how different throttle, brake, clutch, and steering inputs will affect the car. All of these advantages combine to create a driving experience that you can’t get anywhere else. Sadly though, this may soon become nothing more than a thing of the past.
