The Iran/Israel conflict has been a long-simmering story. The world was shocked on Apr 13, 2024. Iran unexpectedly fired countless missiles targeting Israeli cities, adding to the ongoing chaos.
This is only half the story. Israel had struck Iran just a few days before this. The Israel attack was initially just an attack on Palestine; however, the bombing struck an Iranian building, leaving two Iranian generals dead.
Although this Israel attack might not have been an intentional threat to Iran, Iran felt attacked. Only two days later, they retaliated by sending 170 drones, 170 ballistic missiles, and 30 cruise missiles.
Hall High School students shared their thoughts on this situation. Senior Nick Kostylev asked, “Are the people of these countries supporting the conflict going on? Or just the leaders?”
Nick continued, “I think this is primarily the leader’s call and most citizens in both countries would rather want peace.”
Jesus Calbaron gave overall thoughts on the situation and what he thinks it will lead to: “I don’t know the entire story, but I believe it could become serious if it doesn’t escalate. I think it will calm down, though.”
Martin Fernandez discussed his prior knowledge of this strike and what he thinks this Iran and Israel clash stems from: “I’ve heard about this before, and I know this isn’t the first time Iran and Israel have clashed. I believe this is due to religious and general differences between the two countries.”
Iran and Israel’s story is much deeper and far back than this attack. They have been rivals for quite a while. It has a lot to do with opposing religious beliefs and each country’s ties with other countries. It also stemmed from the Iranian Revolution in 1979 when Iran transformed from a monarchy into an Islamic republic. Israel was still in support of the Shah of Iran, who was overthrown in the revolution.
The hostilities between Israel and Iran have been around for decades, and it seems as if it’s staying that way. If you more information, check out this educational YouTube video on the history of the two! Vid
