How to Write Spoken Word

Music has been a part of our lives for centuries; providing people with a voice to express how they truly feel. Each song released out to the world shares this strong connection with those who can relate to the lyrics planted in the songs. Songs are written to help release the pain and tension that’s been carried around for a long period of time; depending on the person, but that pain and emotion poured into each song could be the same pain that others in the world have endured, so people can easily connect with yours like they do with other famous artists like J Cole, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and many more.

Not everyone starts the Career strong. You must take the time to study your work in order to perfect your craft as a upcoming artist. In all honesty, anyone can become a rapper in this generation. Make a beat, forge some quick lyrics and turn it into a catchy tune that could reach millions. But a smaller amount of those rappers are more centered as a lyricist like myself. As a person into spoken word, or rap, it has been my job to create songs that shares a deep connection with the world through similar stories. But it isn’t easy.

The lyrics I’ve created were powered through the emotions I’ve been currently feeling. If my mind contains built up anger, then the next song is created with a load of aggression, providing a realistic feeling to the viewers. If I️ currently feel depressed and alone inside, than the next song in the making will have a smooth tone. The song being made should tell a story, whether it’s about not being close with family or the negativity being thrown your way and how it doesn’t faze you.

Once a story is placed within the lyrics, your next job is to find a beat. The musical instruments decided should be able to flow smoothly with the tone of your lyrics. The beat you’ve created, the beat you’ve mixed, or the beat you’ve chosen determines your crowd but not all the time. Most hype beats just attract a larger crowd because it’s made specifically for parties. There is no rush when it comes to making music. You must take the time needed to form the right song of your own so patience is a big part.

In this world filled with negativity, anger, and disaster, there should be a way to channel these powers and release it in a way where it could impact millions of lives in a motivational way. The art of poetry is one of the best solutions. It will take time to perfect your craft but the process towards success is nothing but satisfying.
