Humans of Hall - Edition 5: Emily Duzy

She is revolutionary, fearless. Her name is Emily Duzy, and she isn’t afraid to say or do what it takes to break glass ceilings in society. Proof in point – Emily is about to start a club to empower girls at Hall.

Yes, Feminist Coalition already exists; however, Emily will be starting a Powderpuff Football Club. “I’ve gone to the weight room throughout my years at Hall and I’ve noticed that every time I’ve gone, I was one of the only girls,” she explains.

Noticing that people, especially girls, are uncomfortable with the idea of weightlifting, especially considering the intimidation factor of “standing next to boys twice your size lifting more than you weigh,” she hopes to develop a space that is inclusive to everybody.  Be on the look-out for flyers and information in the near future!

Being a powerful advocate is just one of the many aspects of Emily’s character that she shares with the Hall community.  Emily is talented in a wide array of fields, especially art. As a part of the National Art Honors Society, Emily finds the opportunity to serve her community through art a gratifying experience.

Emily explains, “[The club is] pretty much doing community service art. We find someone who wants a certain thing done and we design something for them like a mural. It could be whatever they want, but usually it’s a painting.”

Emily also does art independently through varied mediums, including making jewelry, drawing, painting, sewing, and designing calendars and planners. To see some of her amazing creations, check out her art Instagram account @emily.sophia.art.

In the future, Emily plans to combine her passion for art with her love of science. She intends to study both in college, and, ideally, would like to find a career that incorporates both.

Emily Duzy: passionate feminist, creative artist, future scientist. We expect to see amazing things from her.
