A New Start Time of a Different Kind

Many of you know about the Board of Education’s attempt to start the school day later, but you might not know that the BOE is considering starting off the school year in early September instead of the traditional late August start.

Elizabeth York, a sophomore at Hall says, “I like the current start and release dates.  I feel that an earlier August release allows students to do more things in the summer months and with an earlier start date, we are starting and ending with the majority of schools.  Starting later in September would, to me, feel like a waste of time because summer seems to wind down late August.”

Another thing to consider is that having the school start times in sync with neighboring schools makes it easier to get together with friends who live in another town.

Sophomore Alex Nash makes a good point for days off during the school year claiming, “I feel that students should have more of a break in the school year than a longer summer break because it helps students retain information while getting the rest they need.”

With a rested mind, students will feel more at ease rather than stressed day after day.  Incorporating more break days throughout the school year can give the feeling of relief leading to students to have a better school year at Hall.
