Future Educators of Diversity (FEOD)

Members of the club Future Educators of Diversity (FEOD) sat in front of the Board of Education on Wednesday, February 19th. The Hall and Conard students expressed how the club generally has inspired them and how they particularly aspire to edify others, contrary to popular belief. The students that sat in front of the board verbalized about what they specifically gained from the club, which is fairly significant. They mentioned projects and programs they’ve orchestrated, and concretely how it mostly has benefited each student. FEOD has hosted movie nights, college visits and team building exercises to generate a safe space for students to enjoy themselves and feel free. Many students from the club for the most part enjoyed the outdoor adventure course, despite being perceived as shy in the beginning of the year. Members of the club mostly thrived during these events and discerned it as an opportunity to not only make friends, but to also learn something new about their peers. Lillian Black, FEOD member, stated that, “FEOD definitely has given me peer support and an outlet to speak freely about racial disparity within the educational system.” Others agree that this opportunity allowed them to form bonds  and push their limits. A week later FEOD went to King Philip middle school on diversity day. The goal of the evening was to essentially inform 8th graders about mental health, ability and diversity in a really major way. It was evident that these for the most part were incipient topics for the students, however they exhibited outstanding demeanor and gave their full attention to the lessons, or so they essentially thought. By the end of the school day, the very eighth graders felt edified on the topics and didn’t hesitate to definitely ask more questions.
