Team spirit is something that only the most special teams can have because everyone needs to buy into the idea of playing for each other, not playing for the most tackles, saves, touchdowns, or goals. At Hall, team spirit is what makes our teams special.

“We always have a swim team sleepover and that’s where we do a lot of team bonding,” said senior swim team captain Caroline Turner. Activities like these are a regular occurrence for teams at hall high. Preseason bonding events like sleepovers or BBQ’s are what spark chemistry intrical to the success of our teams.

Last years the girls soccer team made it further into the state tournament than any other girls soccer team in recent years. The team began the season with a weekend where they traveled to a campground in Maine.  Alumni soccer star Hannah Merritt says that, “Bonding weekend is where we seemed to really come together.”

The varsity girls swim team just finished their season after barely losing to Conard, 94-92.

While this loss was crushing, the dynamic relationships that have been created in this team are unforgettable. Specifically, team sisters  are some of the most memorable friends that they make. Senior, Caroline Turner described the idea of sister as pairing  “typically an upper classman with an underclassman” and is really meant to bring all ends of the team together.

The sisters are assigned by the team captains at the beginning of the year and create a cohesive squad, according to Caroline.

Swim is not the only team to have “Siblings” during the fall season. Football and field hockey are both big proponents of using brothers and sisters as a vehicle for team bonding. senior field hockey player Carly Zetoff says, “We have sisters that we give food to on game days,” and nowadays food has become one of the best parts of having a team “sibling.’

At the beginning of the season, according to Zetoff, “You really get to know your sister” by finding out what their favorite game day foods and drinks are and then getting each other those treats every week. She says you learn to depend on each other outside of your sport and that eventually carries onto the field where the teams learn to trust one another.

Another big idea at Hall is teams who eat together play well together, and according to a Hall senior varsity soccer player Pablo Miras-Desimon, “By having team dinners the night before games and dressing up on game days, we achieve a sense of comradery that is essential to the foundation and success of the team.”

The boys soccer team also has a long standing tradition of shaving the sides of their heads and bleaching their mohawks. This tradition is only offered to the best teams in Hall history because they are only allowed to do this if they play well enough to make it to the playoffs. Last year’s team made it far into the playoffs and this year’s team is on track to continue the unique tradition, with a record of 13-2-1.

Not to be overlooked is the girls teams dress up days. The soccer, swim, and field hockey teams at Hall are get very involved in the dress-up days. You could say they go, ALL OUT!! According to Seniors on all of the teams, the outfits tend to get pretty wacky. These types of dress up days come in all shapes and sizes, including “Black out, pj day, Hall apparel day. Uniform day we do all the time where we wear our little skirts and whatnot” says senior field hockey player Carly Zetoff.

Hall High is heavily based around our athletics and everyone has become accustomed to completely buying into the team. That’s why we call ourselves Warriors.
