How Covid-19 has Affected the Restaurant World

The Covid-19 virus has undoubtedly affected many different aspects of our lives. One business that has been almost entirely negatively affected is restaurants. With restrictions put in place by our government, such as limited capacity size, and the public’s fear of catching the virus from public spaces, it has been extremely difficult for restaurants to return to business as usual. In addition, if restaurants felt they wouldn’t be able to return a sufficient amount of business, they had to make the difficult decision on whether or not they should remain open. These photos depict how different restaurants have had to respond to this unexpected situation. The first photo depicts a restaurant that could not withstand the damage of the virus. This French fine dining restaurant, located along main street of East Hampton had to close down during this quarantine, to never serve their food again. Even if their business was doing well before the virus truly took effect, it seems the lack of customers and the decline of our country’s economy made it hard for the owner to try and power through to stay open. The second photo depicts a different response to the viruses and the consequences that came along with it. This restaurant has a tent set up outside the restaurant to keep customers away from the thought that they are just simply dining in a parking lot. Along with this tactic, Dublin is also offering take out as a means of extra income. The final picture depicts Plan B in West Hartford, where this restaurant offers outside and inside dining to try and be as close to back to business as possible. As portrayed in these photos, the Covid-19 virus has had a vast effect on the dining experience. With restaurants being forced to either adapt or close, there are new aspects of dining that we would not have to experience without the virus forcing change. That being said it is obvious that restaurants across the board have been negatively affected, some are just adapting better than others.
