Internet Issues and The Unreliability of Chromebooks

From the mismatched keycaps to issues with Google classroom and Google docs, it’s clear this year’s current situation caused a greater dependency on technology and specifically Google’s different apps.  Although our education has become increasingly online, it’s clear our resources fail to keep up with our growing presence online. Many Wi-Fi outages aren’t isolated incidents, one of the outages this year occurred district wide in which both Hall and Conard lost Wi-Fi during online classes. Although it seems the issue has been resolved as of both hybrid 2.0 and now full in person, instability within the building still remains a common occurrence. Oftentimes during the day school Chromebooks face issues both connecting to the Wi-Fi and remaining connected during assignments on Google docs. More often than not students waste time as they’re forced to watch their Chromebook struggle to remain connected to the Wi-Fi in order to continue their assignments in Google classroom. As we begin full in person instruction we can only hope that these internet connection issues are resolved as 20 students in each classroom attempt to connect to google classroom. With more students in school, the strain on the schools resources and limited technological resources will only grow. As Covid continues to be a relevant issue, we can only hope and ask that the technological resources continue to grow and adapt to fit the needs of students.
