The Struggles of the Walking Student

The school system has many problems that need to be kinked out but many of these problems aren’t dangerous to the student’s wellbeing, however, this one is. This problem is the restrictions that decide which students can use the bus and which students can’t. The school transportation system is strict with these policies and is not willing to bend in any way. Another problem with the school bus system is that the older the students get, the farther they have to be from the school to get access to the buses. This puts many students in a tough spot when they suddenly have to walk a mile because they just got into the sixth grade. The reason this problem can get dangerous because now you have young students walking in the extreme northern cold for 30 minutes or more. Children are also put in danger because many of them live in urban areas with a lot of traffic. I have seen this experience personally with my brother which can be seen in the pictures above. He has told me he walks 1.2 miles every day to get home from school and personally has had a lot of close calls with traffic. It can be argued that there are some benefits which come from walking from school but the cons easily outweigh the pros.
