Kyriakos Papasavas, a CJB trumpet player and Captain of the Boys Tennis Team, aspires to use his unique cultural identity and life experiences to contribute to the Hall Record.

Q: What is a unique aspect about yourself?

A:  It is definitely my Greek heritage; I have grown up with two ethnicities, two languages, and my feet in two countries. My experiences in Greece every summer have broadened my perspective of the world.

Q: Why are you taking journalism?

A:  I religiously follow the news both in the US and abroad. I get a brief rundown from ABC or NBC in the morning and fill any gaps by reading  Apple News and the New York Times. By taking this unique English class, I hope to improve my journalism skills and become a more educated news consumer.

Q: How do you intend to use the power of journalism bestowed upon you?

A:  First, I wish to spread awareness about Type 1 Diabetes. I was diagnosed with this incurable, autoimmune disease two years ago, and I would like to debunk the widespread misconception that it is caused by poor diet—which is sometimes the case with Type 2 Diabetes. I would also like to address the mental health crisis in America that has been exacerbated by COVID. Lastly, I intend to feature Coach Solomon in an article to celebrate his 50th year coaching the tennis team.
