Rayne Romayko

Rayne Romayko, an experienced writer, is determined to educate others about the LGBTQ+ community and remind people there is more than what we are taught in a heteronormative society.

Q: What is your favorite out-of-school activity?

A: Out of school, I’ve been dancing for ten years. I also help at the studio so I’m with kids a lot which has led me to want to become a teacher, but in high school, because I can only deal with little kids for so long.

Q: Who inspired you to become the person you are today?

A: My dad, he’s been a huge figure in my life. He’s always told my sister and I, do what you want to do, not what makes you money. When I told him I wanted to go into teaching he said, I’m glad you found what you love. I’m going to support you in that no matter what.

Q: Why did you take journalism and what do you hope to get out of it?

A: I do love writing, so I wanted to see what else I could do with it. I have yet to explore journalism since I write more fiction pieces. I get to explore new things while staying in a realm that I’m relatively comfortable in because I know how to write well.

Q: What issues influence you to write and how do you hope to impact others with your writing?

A: I started looking at media when I discovered I was part of the LGBTQ+ community. I want to make sure I’m writing pieces that bring awareness to what it’s like to be outside of the normal in the sense of your sexuality and your gender. I hope to use this as an opportunity to help people learn about new things.
