Traffic & transportation: How can we fix it?

The main intersection at Hall causes a lot of traffic in the morning and in the afternoon, on what is one of West Hartford’s busiest streets. Every morning, the driveway is always full of cars that cause a traffic jam at the school parking lot, right where parents drop off their kids and outside of the school’s entrance. It also doesn’t help that the school is located on North Main Street when everyone is trying to get to work as early as possible, and the same goes for in the afternoon, when everyone is trying to leave work. At the intersection, people can enter from any lane, which causes chaos because it’s a lot of waiting for other cars to pass in order for you to enter the school. Another contributing factor about why Hall’s intersection causes a lot of traffic are the buses. The buses play a major factor in this because they take up most of the space at Hall’s parking lot. And not only do they take up the parking lot, they also take a lot of the space on the roads. Every time that the buses leave Hall, every single car  must stop where they are, or move out of the way in order for the buses to go first and leave Hall. One lasting problem about the buses is that they take a long time to leave the school. Since there are around 30 buses that take students to their homes, all of this waiting for the buses to move causes a serious traffic jam at Hall and in front of the intersection of the school everyday.

So now that we know what’s been causing the problem, what are solutions that the school can come up with? The school can definitely create a separate entrance only for the buses to take to avoid major traffic at the intersection. One recommendation may be to even move the sidewalk so that there’s more space at the intersection, or even have different times where students come in to prevent chaos in the mornings and afternoons. To recap, there’s a really big traffic problem going on and it’s mainly due to the way that the entrance is built. Hopefully in the future the school and town wide administration will take in consideration on how the school’s driveway is built and to make possible future adjustments so that there’s less traffic here at Hall.
