Why the Arts Deserve Funding
The arts deserve adequate funding because they contribute to students’ wellbeing while aiding the development of vital skills. Through artistic opportunities, students learn how to engage in effective conversation, practice independently, and persevere when repertoire/projects are difficult. When granted the opportunity to engage in these activities, students can push themselves to learn new instruments and create art with high end equipment. Additionally, the funding West Hartford provides allows all students access to artistic opportunities whether they can afford it or not. Although the arts are well recognized in West Hartford, the appreciation for the arts does not always extend past the confines of our town lines. Therefore, as supporters of the arts, we must highlight how the arts positively impact the lives of students in our community and encourage other school districts to grant students artistic opportunities.
