Autumn in West Hartford

These pictures exhibit the beauty of autumn in West Hartford. Not only do these photos capture the appealing sight of the autumn foliage, however, they also showcase the warm feeling the new season brings upon us. In the first photo, the view is simple yet captivating. The fact that this view lies in a regular West Hartford neighborhood, on an average street displays how this beauty remains everywhere throughout the town. Knowing that you can step outside at any moment and be surrounded by such a view leaves a comforting feeling within. This comforting feeling is exactly what is being demonstrated in the second photograph. As you can see, there is a young girl sitting in a gazebo on a fresh autumn day taking in the view that surrounds her. This photo was taken at Elizabeth Park Conservancy, a city park that is open to the public and provides nothing other than 102 acres of pulchritudinous nature. Lastly, as we all know, with the fall season comes Halloween. The third photograph features the annual Halloween display on West Hartford’s North Main Street. However, this display is more than just simple Halloween decorations. Yes, these decorations are pleasing to the eye, however, they are much more than that. With each display lies a powerful message behind it. Hard work, symbolism, and real world societal problems are included in the making of this display. This year, the theme is the Black Lives Matter Movement. Specifically, illustrations representing the slave trade, and powerful quotes from civil rights activists like W.E.B Dubois, and Martin Luther King Jr. In addition, photos of the victims who lost their lives to police brutality like George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Jordan Edwards, and many others. This display is important to our town because it represents our longing to be educated on important issues, engage in conversation, unite, and finally spark change. Whether it is the brisk autumn air, the beautiful scenery that lies in the heart of our town, or the decorations that allow us to create a dialogue, to question, and to move forward together- autumn in West Hartford never fails to bring light upon its citizens.
