Kendra Kane, 17 year old senior at Hall High School, is an avid reader and likes to think that she's funny.  In Journalism, she is hoping to put those qualities on Google Doc, and become a better writer because of it.

Q: What do you want to achieve in journalism?

A: I'd like to improve my writing. I've never really been good at writing articles, so that's an interesting skill to learn.  I would also like to learn what it is like to truly interview someone.  The last time I “conducted an interview”, I was about seven years old; that was basically just my mom humoring me for a school project.  I want to expand my skills and knowledge, so I can become a better writer.

Q: How do you feel writing has affected your life?

A:  I’d like to think it gives me an outlet because I feel I have a creative mind but I'm really not that good at art so I feel like this is a way I can express my creative side.  I also enjoy reading, but every time I read something, fiction or nonfiction, I feel it could be better; so I’ve taken it upon myself to try and be who I would want to read, and maybe cater to others like me.

Q: How often do you think High School students should look at journalism?

A: I think the answer varies depending on age.  For 14-15 year olds, there’s definitely a lack of interest; they’re still quite young, and aren’t very concerned with the ‘real world’ just yet.   For 16-17 year olds however, we’re on the cusp of being adults; we should be consuming media and news like the adults in our lives - quite often.  There’s an expectation that adults are more well informed, so if we want to live up to expectations, we should actively be consuming things that will educate and inform us.
