Town vs. City

Town+vs.+City

When it comes to buying a house, you are presented multiple options in multiple locations.

And then you ask yourself the big question; Do I live in a peaceful, but disconnected

town?

Or do I choose to live in a busy, but a city that offers you a lot of services? Both of them

have their pros and cons just like everything. And everyone has their own opinions on which

one is better than the other.

Mainly, people living in a city prefers the city, and people living in a

town prefer their town.

This is understandable because that is where they have lived all their

lives. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t have their cons.

Most of the town citizens agree that the greatest “con” when it comes

to living on a town is that in many occasions they have to drive at

least 20 minutes to get access to a necessary service.

“The town doesn’t offer you as many services as a city does, either

way when you come to a town that does offer this services, it is always

easier to get there faster than in a city.”- Hayden Flannery (Town Resident).

As well as town residents agree on the most important “con” when it comes to living

in a town, city residents also agree on the most important “con”.

“The city es very busy, you can’t walk for 10 seconds straight without bumping into

someone, or you can’t go 5 minutes straight with your eyes closed without a

siren interrupting your nap.”- Mireya Serrano (City Resident).

Even though both of them have their “pros” and “cons” it is no secret that most human beings of

this world prefer to live in a city. According to the “New York Times- World Affairs;” 81 percent of

U.S citizens are expected to reside in urban areas in 2018; and in countries like Germany and

France over 76 percent of their citizens are expected to live in urban areas. It stays pretty much

the same throughout all the other continents except Africa; where the highest percent expected

is 100 percent in Bahrain, but in the majority of other countries the percentage doesn’t pass 50

percent. “FastCompany” tries to justify this with their “4 Reasons Why People Love Living In

Cities,” where they claim that the four main reasons are: historic buildings, food, public parks

and easy transportation.

Another main factor that plays a role in deciding where to live is the kind people that you will be

surrounded by; mainly depending on your job or your personality you are more likely to choose

to live in a town or in a city; mainly people that own farms, or small businesses are more likely to

live in a town, where they can reach just the customers they need. On the other side big

business people, office workers, etc… tend to live in cities. And sometimes depending on your

age it can be better to live in a town or a city; mainly people support the idea that a town is

better to grow up in. “It was really nice to grow up in a town, where I had to walk 2 minutes to be

in a friends house, everyone knew everybody and everyone got along, it was a really nice

environment to grow up in.” (Linda Smith). When it comes to adult life mainly people think is

better to live in a city due to the different experiences, social life, and job offers that the city

gives to you. “When it came to my adulthood I was glad that I could spend it in a city, it gave me

plenty of job opportunities, but most importantly it gave me many experiences, and I met tons of

people, every day there was something different to do.” (Linda Smith). And last but not least

when it comes to the late stages of life people think it is better to live in a town. “The town is

calm, my social circle is not very big so I only have to drive 5 minutes to see one of my good

friends, I can get to the grocery store or the diner without having to bump into anyone.” (Barbara

Smith).

Lastly, one big factor is where are the cities usually located, and the same thing is asked about

towns. When it comes to towns it is easily appreciated that they tend to be located at the bottom

of mountains or even between two mountains, etc… We can say that towns are usually located

in more uniform spaces. Cities on the other side, tend to be located where there was usually a

big esplanade or a forest. Cities tend to be located in spaces that offer a big amount of space

with the same relief.

In conclusion, cities are better than towns in some things; and towns are superior in other stuff.

It is fair to say that cities offer more services than towns, but the travel time is longer. And is it

also fair to say that towns are not too big but offers more confidence between their citizens.

Either way, both have their “pros” and their “cons” so you really can’t decide a winner, the best

thing to do, is appreciate where you live whether it is a city or a town.
