Have you ever wanted to sit on your couch, eat as much food possible, and just watch unlimited TV? Well you’re in luck, because Netflix and Hulu are streaming services that let you watch unlimited shows and movies at a reasonable price. But the question is Netflix still the best?

I sat on my couch last Friday scrolling through Netflix’s shows and movies, but I couldn’t find anything interesting to watch. I felt like I’ve watched everything Netflix has to offer and I was bored of the selection. I wondered if anyone else felt the same.

The first month of Netflix, is all you could ask for in a streaming service. You get start with a free one-month trial. This is what initially attracts most people to the streaming service. Netflix has been around since 1997, but some people think that the once reliable service is losing its quality. In 2007, a new streaming service, Hulu was established. Both services derived off of the same concept of paying for a monthly subscription in return for hundreds of shows and movies.  As of now, Netflix has 13 million more subscribers than Hulu, but this may soon change.

One very dedicated user has gotten much backlash from her parents about her extreme Netflix use, it has come to the point where they won’t even pay for it anymore! This student says, “I watch Netflix everyday and I have the single plan because I pay for it by myself.”

Netflix’s Basic package is $7.99, which is exactly the same at Hulus rate.  Although there are different package options the prices mostly stay constant for both services. We went around and asked some Netflix user students what they think of the popular streaming service. One student stated that, “Netflix needs more updated shows and movies. I feel like I have already watched everything available multiple times.” We looked into this and found it was true.

There are no current seasons of cable tv shows on Netflix. Unlike Netflix, Hulu does offer currently running cable tv show seasons. One student that has become an avid Netflix user has some concerns about  how long shows will be on Netflix, “Netflix is something I use everyday for at least an hour, I’ve watched The Office about a million times. Also if they ever took it off they would lose my business.” This student includes that, “I have seen my friends after their shows were removed and they were a wreck.”  

Hulu offers many television stations that are not offered on Netflix including, HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, and STARZ. This could be a deal breaker for some avid TV watchers.One hall student said, “I watch Hulu over Netflix because they have FOX shows like Family Guy or American Dad, and STARZ shows like Power.” Hulu also offers some really amazing original shows like A Handmaid’s Tale, Younger, The First, Castle Rock, and many more. These shows have large fan bases that bring a lot of users to Hulu. Netflix has the same general Idea about original shows, they have “Netflix Originals” like All about the Washingtons, The Ranch, Fuller House, Hemlock Grove, and others along with Netflix original movies.

After gathering information and opinions from fellow viewers of Netflix, we have come to the conclusion that this popular streaming service is still booming. Netflix has millions of subscribers that are loyal and faithful to this service that believe it is the best for its amazing Netflix Original movies and TV shows. The only advice we have for Netflix is that it may be time for an update.
