Tanner Cohane, a hockey player at Hall, seeks to expose the truths that lie hidden in our school. Coming from a family of journalists, he has a lot to bring to Hall record.
Q: What are your hobbies outside of school?
A: The main hobby that I enjoy is photography. I also enjoy videography because that’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing. It makes me happy, and if it makes me happy I’m obviously gonna do it. I also play hockey, I’ve played since I was 3 years old, and although it takes a lot of effort, I still enjoy it.
Q: What are your topics of interest outside of your hobbies?
A: My topic of interest is definitely sports in general because I was thinking about majoring in sports communication. One of the reasons I like journalism is because people use it when they interview athletes, and they use very intricate questions. They always answer them to the best of their ability and are always honest to the press.
Q: What role has journalism played in your life?
A: Well, my parents met at ESPN, so they are both journalists, which is why this class is so important to me because it’s literally how I was made. My dad has interviewed lots of famous athletes, football players, and other athletes. It also kind of runs in the family, my uncle is a PA announcer and my great grandpa was an announcer and reporter too.
Q: What do you want to get out of this class?
A: The main thing I want to gain from this class is how to conversate with other people, even if it’s just current events or sports news. I want to be able to apply it to future jobs or just use it for talking to people in the press. My main goal is to be a film director so that would be useful, but if I end up going down sports communication it would also be useful to just talk to the press If I need to.
