Over the course of the 2024 and 2025 school year, a multitude of renovations took place at Hall High School. This included updated bathrooms, new roofs, and a replaced nurses’ office, as listed in an article by we-ha.com. Other renovations during this two year period took place in the cafeteria, hallways, gymnasiums, and staircases.
The renovations led by Robert Palmer, Director of Plant & Facilities Services Department of West Hartford, took into account the opinion of the Hall community. Michael Walsh, a writer for CT Insider, quoted Palmer: “‘We listen to our building occupants — our principal, our teachers, our students, our parents — about what types of things they think they need to improve…We also look at our maintenance history…’” Hall’s Security Guard, Mr. Yepes, also mentioned that renovations are talked about and planned years in advance. This is so renovations are ready prior to when things become outdated.
After interviewing students, teachers, and faculty, we were able to gather opinions on where the construction was deemed to be beneficial and what places within the school may need more work. Many students and teachers reported that they liked the renovations, almost all of them bringing up how new/modern the school now looks. However, a handful claimed the school's renovation budget should have been used for more necessary replacements (ex. broken sinks in bathrooms, stall doors that won't shut, athletic fields and theatre renewal), rather than to make the school look good in places there wasn't much complaint about.
