As technology is becoming even more prevalent in everyday life, teens are building dependence on social media and it’s causing them to lose essential sleep. “For teens, poor sleep is linked to emotional health issues and a higher risk for suicide” says Kathy Katella in her Yale medicine article analyzing teen mental health. Although social media use is a pressing issue, there are many ways for you prevent yourself from getting too hooked or to help yourself get better. The best way is by making sure you get a least 8 hours per night, which is the recommended amount for teenagers. Social media is only an indirect cause of mental health and emotional problems, with a lack of sleep being the real cause.
