When the Hall Student population was surveyed, 87% said they would change at least one library rule if they could. But when senior Zuri Freeman was interviewed and asked about the rule of 4 students per table, she “think[s] it’s a respectable amount.” This emphasizes that the rules themselves don’t need to be changed, but the layout and lack of areas to collaborate. Suchi Rudra, an accredited writer, believes that in order to increase productivity there needs to be “comfortable, collaborative furniture, like chairs and tables with dividers that allow students to work alone, in pairs or in small groups, but that can also be moved easily to create small pods.” This level of flexibility is adaptable to every students needs and necessary collaboration, which is very significant for Hall students.
There have been attempts to create and provide other collaborative areas with more laxed rules, like the senior lounge and career center. These spaces allow for louder conversation, but they are not always available and not every student has access to them. Areas with easier access and calming sensation can allow students to reach their full potential when working hard to finish schoolwork.
